Just when I thought my biggest writing issue was making time to sit at the keyboard, I discovered a whole new problem. My latest novel is spiraling out of control so I decided to rework the outline. Mind you, this is the first novel I’ve tried to outline. I allowed the others to wander because (a) I enjoyed seeing where my characters were leading me, and (b) I was still reaching a decent word count. My latest project is threatening to become a three-volume novel all on its own, which is not at all what is wanted. I need to do a complete rethink of the plot.
So how does one go about making time to think? Our first Tri-Valley Writers president, Sue Tasker, advised her family not to bother her when she was stretched out on the couch because she was writing her novel. I’m not sure I can get away with that, as I tend to fall asleep in that position.
Do I need to create a thinking room as well as a writing room?
